Iowa City Police respond to stabbing at Mercy Hospital

Iowa City Police are investigating a stabbing at Mercy Hospital.

According to an ICPD news release, officers were called to the medical facility at 3:35 Tuesday afternoon for a report of a man stabbed. Upon arrival, investigators learned the victim was walking to his car in the Mercy parking ramp east of the hospital on Johnson Street when he was approached by an unknown male. The suspect pressed an object to the victim’s back and demanded his wallet. When the victim turned around, the suspect stabbed him multiple times and fled the area.

The victim was able to walk into the hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a 5’10”, middle-aged, dark-haired, white male with a slender build and wearing a dark blue shirt. No additional information is available at this time.

This incident is being actively investigated by the Iowa City Police Department and we are asking the public for assistance. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Iowa City Police Department at 319-356-5275. In addition, anyone in that area with security cameras is asked to review their recordings and contact the Iowa City Police Department with any potential footage or information about this incident.
