Cedar Rapids firefighters extinguished a house fire on the southwest side of the city during afternoon drive Monday that closed a nearby road for about 45 minutes.
According to a release from the Department, Firefighters were called to the 3300 block of King Dr SW at approximately 5:28 pm. Crews arrived on-scene and reported heavy smoke as they entered the residence. They quickly extinguished a small fire that may have originated in the kitchen area and extended to the upper reaches of the home.
The fire was called under control by 5:45 pm. All occupants of the home were able to safely evacuate and no injuries were reported. The home was damaged by smoke, fire and water.
33rd Ave SW was closed to both directions of travel for approximately 45 minutes and detours were established by Cedar Rapids Police.
The cause of the fire is unknown and there is an active investigation.
