A transient faces charges that she assaulted staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
UI Police say just before 8:00 Friday morning 27-year-old Jelilah Blakley approached the nurses station in the UIHC emergency department and threatened staff. She allegedly struck a victim who was trying to calm her down, causing swelling and redness to the person’s right eye. Blakely also reportedly clawed the arms of two men who tried to restrain her, causing visible injuries.
Blakely was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 5:00 Friday night and charged with two counts of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations Causing Injury and one count of Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of five years in jail.
