A University of Iowa student faces several charges after allegedly assaulting a woman at a downtown bar.

Police say the incident occurred at around 12:20 am Thursday at Brother’s Bar.  19-year-old Alexander Sanchez of Chicago was allegedly involved in a physical altercation and assaulted three different individuals.  According to the arrest report, Sanchez sprinted over to the first victim and violently pushed her hard enough that she fell, hit her head and started bleeding. She reportedly was in an out of consciousness as a result of the assault.

The other two victims were tending to the first victim, who was much smaller than Sanchez.  One was allegedly pushed by Sanchez, while the other was struck in the side of the neck.

When officers arrived and spoke to Sanchez, he reportedly had the odor of ingested alcohol, and provided a PBT showing his blood alcohol level at .100 percent.  A search incident to his arrest reportedly turned up two completely fictitious IDs; one from Illinois and the other from Iowa. Both made Sanchez appear to be of legal drinking age.

Sanchez was arrested; he’s charged with Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury, Assault causing Bodily Injury, and simple Assault; Public Intoxication, and two counts of Possession of Fictitious ID.  If convicted on all counts, Sanchez could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
