A transient faces charges that she called 9-1-1 on Iowa City Police officers who were already on the scene of a trespassing complaint.
Police were called to the Hawks Ridge Apartments on Hawk Ridge Drive just after 3:15 Friday afternoon for a woman who would not leave and wouldn’t tell anyone what she wanted. Arriving officers told 33-year-old Jessica Lusambo that she needed to leave. Lusambo walked out of the office but stayed on the property outside the building, allegedly telling investigators that she would leave when she wanted to. Police say she then called 9-1-1 while with an officer and demanded another officer show up.
Dispatch was told not to send another officer, and Lusambo was told not to call 9-1-1 again. She did, and was placed under arrest. Police say Lusambo resisted handcuffing.
Lusambo is charged with Falsely Claiming an Emergency, Trespassing, and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of 60 days in jail. Trial is set for October 12th.
