Iowa City Police say a southeast Iowa man assaulted an officer with a phone the man claimed he couldn’t find.

According to arrest records, 25-year-old Andre Giles of Burlington was near the intersection of Dubuque and Washington Streets just after 12:45 Sunday morning when he claimed he was looking for a phone. When a nearby Iowa City Police officer told him the phone was in his hand, Giles allegedly responded by attempting to slam the phone into the officer’s face.

Police say Giles showed signs of intoxication. His breath alcohol level was later recorded at .114%.

Giles is charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
