A local transient is accused of successfully shoplifting eight liquor bottles at once by stuffing them into his pants and backpack.

30-year-old Gregory Echols reportedly entered the liquor area of John’s Grocery on East Market Street just after 7:30pm on July 31st and concealed eight bottles of liquor totalling $340.82 by stuffing them into his pants and backpack. He then reportedly left through the back door.

The entire incident was caught on security video. John’s staff reported the theft the next day. Police reviewed the video and recognized Echols from previous engagements. He was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 6:45 Thursday night and charged with 4th Degree Theft. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
