A Texas man faces several charges after police say he assaulted multiple people at an Iowa City dog park.

Iowa City Police were called to the Thornberry Off-Leash Dog Park on Foster Road just after 7:30 Tuesday night for an altercation. An investigation determined that a dog owned by 48-year-old Robert Wahnee of Lubbock had been in an altercation with another dog when a bystander commented that Wahnee should remove his animal from the park. Wahnee reportedly responded by shoving the woman over as she was sitting in a chair. The woman fell to the pavement and hit her head, requiring emergency medical treatment.

Witnesses say Wahnee then attacked a second bystander because she began recording him with her phone. Wahneee allegedly punched the woman in the face and threw her to the ground, causing pain and abrasions.

Police say Wahnee then approached a male who was recording him with his phone, but Wahnee only threatened him without physical contact.

Wahnee was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 4:15 Thursday afternoon and charged with two counts of Assault Causing Bodily injury and one count each of Simple Assault and Disorderly Conduct. If convicted on all charges, Wahnee faces a maximum of 26 months in jail.

Wahnee was released from jail three hours after his booking. No contact orders have been issued.
