A Washington man faces prison time after allegedly stealing an expensive piece of construction equipment from an Iowa City residence.
The incident in question occurred the afternoon of May 20th on Tempe Place. 36-year-old Skylar Smith reportedly entered the victim’s garage and stole an Orion Electrofusion welder valued at over $11,000. The residence was occupied at the time by three people.
Smith allegedly can be seen on video footage entering the victim’s garage. Later, he reportedly tried to sell the welder on eBay. Smith’s stepfather identified him as the suspect on the video footage.
A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest on May 30th; he was booked at the Johnson County Jail on Thursday and charged with 1st degree theft and 2nd degree Burglary. If convicted on both charges, Smith could be sentenced to up to twenty years in prison.
