An Iowa City woman was taken into custody early Friday after reportedly causing a disturbance at the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street.
Police say 24-year-old Lamaria Thomas of Shamrock Place was located outside one of the apartments at the complex, kicking, punching and screaming at the door. When they approached her, Thomas reportedly tried walking away. The officers went to place her under arrest after she allegedly ignored multiple commands to stop, and Thomas then reportedly pulled away and punched an officer in the head.
Thomas was taken to the ground, and reportedly resisted arrest by flexing her arms under her body, making it difficult for officers to handcuff her. Once at the Johnson County Jail, she allegedly admitted to drinking prior to the incident.
Thomas was charged with Interference with Official Acts, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all three counts, she could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail.
