An Iowa City woman faces an Animal Abuse charge after allegedly hanging a cat by its midsection to make it stop making noises.

Police say 26-year-old Yiwen Wang of South Linn Street used a rope to hang the cat by its midsection and rear paws to a bathroom doorknob in order to get it to stop making noises and go to sleep. The cat’s front paws were reportedly the only part of them touching the ground.

Wang allegedly went to bed and woke up hours later to discover the cat had died.  She then put the animal in the refrigerator and reportedly left it there until she figured out how to get rid of the body.

Wang was taken into custody Sunday night and faces up to two years in jail if convicted of Animal Abuse.
