An Iowa City man was arrested after allegedly damaging a vehicle in the downtown area Thursday evening.
Police say 38-year-old Ryan Grady of Berkeley Lane approached a white Ford Taurus on the 200 block of South Dubuque Street at approximately 6:40 pm and threw a bag on the hood. He then reportedly began yelling at the victim, telling him to get out of his car.
Grady allegedly continued to hit the vehicle and yelling at the man. Dents and scratches were observed by officers on the vehicle’s trunk, front driver’s side door and the hood. When confronted about his actions, Grady allegedly admitted to causing the damage, but said he believed the car belonged to him and not the victim.
Damage was estimated between $500-$750.
Grady was charged with 4th degree Criminal Mischief, a serious misdemeanor. He appeared in court the next day and was released on his own recognizance. Grady did not request a court-appointed counsel, and further court dates are pending.
