The woman who helped her son flee the country to avoid being tried for attempted murder has been convicted of aiding and abetting a fugitive.
The Gazette reports that according to trial testimony, Lima Younes helped mislead police about the whereabouts of her 20-year-old son, former University of Iowa student Ali Younes, who is charged with attempted murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree theft.
Her husband, 49-year-old Alfred Ali Mohammad Younes, faces the same charge.
Ali Younes was a University of Iowa student in April 2022 when he allegedly strangled a woman on campus to unconsciousness and stole her earrings, valued at $20,000. He cut off his ankle monitor at his parents’ home in Sutherland, Iowa this past May 6th, and flew from O’Hare International Airport with his grandmother to Jordan.
The jury deliberated for over four hours before finding Lima Younes guilty. She is to be sentenced September 21st.
