The woman who crashed her car into a Cedar Rapids apartment building last month and caused its occupants to evacuate has been charged with reckless driving.

According to a release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, crews arrived the afternoon of July 20th to find a single vehicle had struck the Country Club View apartments on the 300 block of 29th Street Drive Southeast, and partially went into the building. An exterior load bearing wall was severely damaged by the crash.

Crews quickly administered medical aid to the driver, now identified as 24-year-old Amanda Harker of Vinton.  The building was cleared of occupants; the building damage required additional fire crews to build temporary interior shoring to keep further structural damage from taking place and to remove the vehicle that was still partially inside the building.

Harker was also charged for failure to provide proof of insurance, and arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a previous drug charge. She was fined $200 for the reckless driving charge.
