An area transient was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting her domestic partner in a Walmart parking lot.

Officers were called to the Iowa City location of the superstore in the 11 am hour Saturday on reports of a physical domestic incident.  It was learned that the victim had called 911 and stated that 28-year-old Sara Perske had punched him in the face.  He had also informed dispatch that Perske had been drinking and was intoxicated.

Upon arrival, police met with the victim, who had a red mark and bump on his forehead.  He said that he was at the parking lot to return some items to Perske, who allegedly punched him when he asked her to get out of his vehicle.

Perske admitted to striking the man, but claimed it was in self-defense.  She also stated she was uninjured and that he did not assault her.

The couple had been in a romantic relationship for the past three years and had lived together in the same household.

Perske reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and smelled strongly of ingested alcohol.  A PBT was administered, showing her blood-alcohol level at .190 percent.

Perske was charged with first offense Domestic Assault and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to 60 days in jail.
