A Colorado man was arrested Friday night after allegedly assaulting a defenseless victim and threatening officers who took him into custody.

27-year-old Brett Thompson was reportedly observed on the 300 block of East Washington Street just after 9pm, crouched over the victim who was lying on the ground.  Thompson allegedly beat the man in the head and upper torso repeatedly.

He reportedly resisted arrest when officers confronted him and allegedly kicked the victim again once he was handcuffed.  Thompson then reportedly used the “N” word repeatedly toward arresting officers.  He then allegedly stated he would murder one of them if given the chance.

Thompson, who showed signs of intoxication but refused a post-arrest PBT, caused bodily injury to the victim who was bleeding heavily from his head.  He faces counts of Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Interference with Official Acts, 1st degree Harassment, and Public Intoxication.  If convicted  on the charges, Thompson could be sentenced to over three years in jail.
