The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two victims who died when their canoe tipped over Friday afternoon on Lake Macbride.
Johnson County Sheriff Brad Kunkel told KCJJ that a 9-1-1 call came in about a canoe tipping over in the lake just before 3:45 Friday afternoon. A witness reported seeing two people fall out of their canoe and disappear under the water. Through the use of sonar, the victims were located in approximately 23 feet of water. The Johnson County Metro Dive Team recovered the first victim at 6:50 p.m and the second victim at 7:04 p.m. Both victims were transported by the Johnson County Medical Examiner to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for autopsy. Neither person was wearing a life jacket.

The victims have now been identified as 28-year-old Suad Al Yasiri, and 23-year-old Willie Davis, both of Cedar Rapids.

The incident remains under investigation.
