The Iowa State Patrol has identified the driver and victim involved in a fatal car vs. pedestrian incident near Mechanicsville.
According to the official crash report, 38-year-old Brett Moravek of Marion was walking along the shoulder of Highway 30 near Franklin Avenue just before 11:30 Tuesday night when he attempted to cross the road for an unknown reason. He was hit by a 2004 Ford Expedition being driven by 46-year-old Jamie Martinez, also of Marion.
Moravek was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he later died.
The accident remains under investigation.
