Summer school is well underway at Iowa’s three public universities, and enrollment remains below pre-pandemic levels. At the U of I, it’s as low as it’s been in over 40 years.
The Gazette reports UI summer enrollment for the term that started May 15 was 10,261 — the lowest since 1980; 183 below last summer, and 21 percent down from 2017.
Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa have seen slight increases in summer school enrollment, but both are well below their 2017 peak levels.
The University of Iowa’s four-week summer sub-session wrapped up over the weekend. Six, eight and 12 week programs are still in session. In-class, on-line and internship options are available. The Gazette says online-only summer counts have returned to pre-pandemic levels among undergraduate students.
