An undrafted University of Iowa baseball standout who signed a minor league free agent contract has now been recognized by his Major League parent club for the outstanding start to his season.

The Chicago White Sox featured Hawkeye alum Ben Beutel in the team’s “Farm Notes” scoreboard feature after the 7th inning of Saturday’s game against St. Louis. In a feature subtitled “Hawkeye piercing the Carolina League ‘, the team noted the left-handed pitcher threw three shutout innings Friday night for White Sox Single-A affiliate Kannapolis of the Carolina League.
