Iowa City Police investigate shots fired on the Ped Mall overnight

Iowa City Police are investigating a report of shots fired on the Ped Mall early Sunday morning.

According to an ICPD news release, officers were called to the area just after 1am. Shell casings and property damage were found in the area of Clinton and College Streets. At this time, no injuries have been reported.

A Hawkalert issued by the University of Iowa at 1:10am warned the public to avoid the area during the investigation. Another Hawkalert issued just before 3am indicated the public could resume normal activities as the investigation continued.

Two men…one in a red shirt and one in a grey shirt…are believed to be involved.

The incident is under investigation by Iowa City Police. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Gabe Cook at Cook@iowa-city.org or 319-356-5275. In addition, anyone in that area with security cameras is asked to review their recordings and contact the Iowa City Police Department with any potential footage or information about this incident.
