An Iowa City man who was allegedly driving while barred was charged with assault when he reportedly tried to run from police.

19-year-old Davis Echolas of Muscatine Avenue was stopped by officers the evening of June 28th near the intersection of Gilbert and Bowery Streets when it was determined that he is barred from driving in the State of Iowa.  Once notified that he was being arrested for the offense, Echolas allegedly pushed an officer’s arm in an attempt to get away.  His attempt was thwarted when officers took him to the ground and placed him in handcuffs.

Echolas was charged with Driving while Barred, Interference with Official Acts and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 37 months in jail.
