An Illinois woman has been charged after allegedly writing a series of bad checks at the Coralville location of Costco this spring.

Police say 40-year-old Kris Matha of Oquawka Illinois wrote checks between April 28th and May 1st to the store in various amounts ranging from nearly $298 to over $330. A total of four checks were presented and written after the bank account associated with the checks had already been closed.

The checks totaled $1257.50.

A warrant was issued for the woman’s arrest on June 14th and served in Des Moines County. Matha has been charged with 3rd degree Theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. An initial appearance has been scheduled for July 13th.  She will be transported to the Johnson County Courthouse by sheriff’s deputies and returned to Des Moines County immediately afterwards. A request to have Matha’s bond reduced was denied by the court.

If convicted on the charge, Matha could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
