An Iowa City woman faces charges that she held a knife to a man’s throat.

Iowa City Police were called to the Deforest Avenue home of 59-year-old Jill Bushman just before 9:30 Saturday night. The alleged victim told police that Bushman had returned home from shopping with a friend when he tried to help her remove items from the vehicle. That’s when Bushman allegedly got into the vehicle with an approximately five-inch kitchen knife and held it up to the man with the blade facing him.

A struggle for the knife ensued, ending with it being thrown into the neighbor’s yard. The knife was later found buried in some bushes.

The alleged victim told investigators that Bushman gets angry and irrational when she’s intoxicated. Police say he had a small cut on his face consistent with being cut by a blade, although neither person involved in the altercation would explain how the wound happened.

Bushman and her alleged victim have lived together for over 20 years and have two adult children together.

Bushman is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Using a Weapon. If convicted, she faces a maximum of two years in jail.
