A North Liberty man who claimed he had “no name” has been arrested after allegedly calling 9-1-1 during his own traffic stop.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says it pulled over a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan for speeding on southbound Interstate 380 just south of the Swisher exit just after 12:15 Monday morning. The deputy reports the driver refused to provide his identification, saying, “I have no name.” When ordered out of the vehicle, the man allegedly refused, then called 9-1-1.

The suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Marciss Brown of North Copeland Lane, was taken into custody. Police say a search of the vehicle turned up a small baggie of a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the driver’s door.

Brown is charged with Improper Use of 9-1-1 and Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
