Fire heavily damages Coralville residence

Fire heavily damaged a Coralville residence Tuesday night.

According to a news release from the Coralville Fire Department, crews from Coralville and North Liberty were called to a house fire in the 1400 block of Eastview Drive at approximately 6:15pm. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy flames coming from the garage area. The fire was extinguished about 15 minutes after firefighters arrived.

There was heavy fire damage throughout the house. Firefighters remained on the scene until about 8:45 PM. The occupants of the house were home at the time and got out of the building safely under their own power. They are currently receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but fire inspectors suspect unattended cooking. The damage is estimated at around $175,000.
