A Kalona man faces charges that he tried to gouge out another person’s eye during a fight.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was called to a fight on Sharon Center Road around 3pm Saturday. An investigation determined 37-year-old Anthony Hofer of 3rd Street had been in a verbal argument with another subject that turned physical. The two ended up on the ground, where Hofer allegedly started punching the other person in the face and chest. Hofer then reportedly tried to gouge out one of the alleged victim’s eyeballs, causing serious injuries to the affected eye.
Hofer is charged with Assault With Intent to Inflict Serious Injury. If convicted he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
