An Iowa City man was arrested after an alleged assault on his spouse.

Officers were dispatched to the couple’s home just after 5:30 pm Wednesday after a 911 hang-up where nothing was heard.  Upon arrival, they reportedly found 29-year-old Reagan Pepper sitting outside of his home. He stated that he and his wife had gotten into an argument because she had not answered her phone after he called her multiple times.

The woman stated that Pepper sent her a text message saying that he was going to “beat her ass,” and when he got home, Pepper reportedly slapped her in the face multiple times.

Pepper was previously convicted of domestic assault in 2021. He was charged with a second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years.

A no-contact order was requested between the couple.
