Cedar Rapids Police make arrest in May homicide

Cedar Rapids police took in a 17-year-old suspect allegedly involved in a May homicide.

The Department says officers responded to a disturbance call just after 10 pm May 10th on the 3500 block of Oakland Road Northeast. Callers to 911 reported hearing one gunshot. Upon arrival, they found 17-year-Cristian Upah of Marion with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso.

Upah was treated on-scene and transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

17-year-old Keyun McGowan of Marion was arrested on outstanding warrants Thursday night. He faces charges of 1st degree Murder, two counts of 1st degree Robbery, Going Armed with Intent,  Assault While Displaying a Weapon, and Use of a Dangerous Weapon in the Commission of a Crime.

McGowan’s name is being released as juvenile confidentiality laws allow for the public release of juveniles charged with a forcible felony.  Murder 1st degree is a forcible felony.
