Iowa City Police say an additional arrest has been made as the investigation into the May 6 fight in the 300 Block of South Gilbert Street continues.

17-year-old Christopher Torres of Iowa City faces two counts of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, and one count of Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury.

The incident occurred outside Bardot just before 2am on the date in question.  According to the arrest report, Torres willingly joined the large fight to help his relatives, and found himself engaged in combat. During the altercation, Torres allegedly brandished a knife and stabbed three different people.

Victim 1 had a large slash across the abdomen and face, and was stabbed in the armpit and back. Victim 2 was stabbed in the torso, armpit, neck and back, and had a piece of their spine chipped off. Victim 3 was stabbed in the armpit and back. The victims were all expected to recover from their injuries.

Torres was interviewed days after the incident and police say he was wearing the same bloody shoes from the incident. His cellphone was seized as part of a search warrant, and messages between him and his girlfriend allegedly bragged about stabbing more than one person, how they got to, quote, “taste the knife,” and “got what they were lookin’ for.”

Torres could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison if convicted on all three counts.

28-year-old Victor Torres-Molina of Iowa City, 20-year-old Antonio Montelongo of West Liberty and 21-year-old Luke Newton of West Liberty had previously been arrested for their alleged involvement in the fight. Torres-Molina was charged with Participating in a Riot and Assault While Participating in a Felony; Montelongo was charged with Participating in a Riot, and Newton was charged with Willful Injury causing Serious Injury and Participating in a Riot.

The incident remains under investigation.
