An Iowa City area transient was taken into custody last week after using a stick during an attempted assault.
According to arrest reports, 55-year-old Kurt Brookhart has a no-contact order with the victim, who called police as he was at their residence in violation of the order. Brookhart allegedly chased the victim while wielding a large stick. The victim had to run back to their vehicle to prevent being struck.
Brookhart then reportedly came up to the victim’s vehicle and slammed it on the hood before taking off.
He was located and arrested. Brookhart faces a charge of simple assault and violation of the no contact order. A non-jury trial has been scheduled for July 18th. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 30 days in jail.
