An Iowa City man was arrested on a warrant for harassing a woman at her apartment overnight and twice again later that day.
According to the arrest report, 59-year-old Adrian Stokes was at the victim’s apartment around 1:30am on May 18th, banging on her door, yelling and allegedly threatening her. Officers responded and arrested Stokes for public intoxication.
Hours later, Stokes was released, and reportedly harassed the victim through a series of unwanted text messages. He then once again showed up at her door, banged and threw property at the door, yelled at her, and ripped up a drawing the victim had attached to the door.
Arriving officers alleged Stokes appeared intoxicated, and warned him to stop harassing the victim after charging him with public intoxication a second time. However, the victim called police again at 12:30pm to report that Stokes was back banging on her door. When she opened it, Stokes was standing there yelling at her. She informed him that she was calling police and Stokes left the premises.
A warrant was issued for his arrest, and Stokes was taken to the Johnson County Jail Friday night. He faces a 3rd degree harassment charge, punishable by a jail sentence of up to 30 days. A no contact order was requested by the victim.
Court records show Stokes pleaded guilty to two public intoxication charges and was fined $105 for each offense.
