A Kentucky man’s evening in Iowa City ended up with him at the Johnson County Jail after an alleged public intoxication incident.

According to authorities, 29-year-old Jacob Healey got involved in an altercation at Brother’s Bar just before closing time early Wednesday. He began talking to a girlfriend of a male at the bar, and an argument between Healy and the man ensued. The argument escalated to a fight involving multiple men and Healey.

When officers arrived, he had already been removed from Brothers, but was still yelling outside the bar.  Healey reportedly admitted multiple times that he was intoxicated, as evidenced by his bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of ingested alcohol.

Healey returned to the Graduate Hotel and allegedly called 911 to state he was upset with his police interaction.  Dispatchers say Healey wouldn’t listen to them and a supervisor got involved after he called 911 a second time.

A police lieutenant arrived to speak to Healey, but he still refused to go to his room. He was eventually allowed to go into his room with assistance from hotel staff, but he again called 911 and would not go to his room.

Healey was taken into custody and charged with Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct, and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. A non-jury trial was set by judge Brandon Schrock for July 12th, and Healey could be sentenced to up to 90 days in jail if convicted.
