North Liberty Police had an easy time spotting a fake license plate on a motorcycle Wednesday morning after the suspect reportedly used a piece of cardboard to make his own vanity plate.

Officers pulled over 29-year-old Steven Harper of War Admiral Lane just after 8:45am. Police say his 2000 Yamaha R6 had a piece of cardboard in the license plate bracket with the word “TRAVELER” written on it.

Harper allegedly refused to identify himself, give proper documentation for the vehicle, or provide proof of insurance. A check of the motorcycle’s VIN confirmed Harper was the owner. He is barred from driving until September.

Harper was arrested and charged with Driving While Barred and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both charges he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
