Police investigate vehicle theft on UI campus

University of Iowa Police are investigating a reported vehicle theft on campus.

UI officials say they received a report on Friday, June 3rd, that a pickup truck was stolen from the parking lot of the Public Policy Research Building on the 600 block of East Jefferson Street sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 that afternoon.

The incident remains under investigation and police are encouraging those with a car on campus to be vigilant and take extra precautions, including:

  • Close and lock all windows and doors when you park.
  • Bring your key with you. Never leave your keys in your car, on your car, or in the ignition.
  • Park in a well-lit area whenever possible.
  • Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle. If you must, make sure they are not in sight, or lock them in your trunk.
  • Consider installing an audible alarm system if your car does not have one.
  • Consider installing a steering wheel lock, especially if your vehicle is particularly vulnerable to theft.
  • If your car is stolen contact police immediately by dialing 9-1-1 to make a theft report.
