An Iowa City man reached speeds exceeding 100 miles an hour as he was trying to avoid police.

29-year-old Quamaine Wallace of the Quarters apartment complex on Highway 6 East was reportedly observed speeding on I380 around 1:30 am Tuesday.  The deputy reported that while attempting to catch up to Wallace, he increased the speed on his 2004 Honda Element to 115 miles an hour.

After initiating lights and siren, Wallace allegedly exited at the 4 mile marker at speeds still exceeding 100 miles an hour. He eventually stopped at the Kum & Go located just off the interstate.

Wallace faces an eluding charge, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to two years if convicted. After his initial appearance, he was released on his own recognizance pending future court proceedings.
