A former Iowa State football player who assaulted former University of Iowa basketball player Jordan Bohannon has been given a deferred judgment.

31-year-old Nicholas Kron of Nashville, Tennessee entered a guilty plea in March. On Thursday, Judge Jason Burns gave Kron a deferred judgment, put him on probation, and ordered him to serve 100 hours of community service.

On May 23rd of 2021, Kron and Bohannon were reportedly arguing outside of DC’s on the Ped Mall  after it had closed for the night. According to police, Kron sucker-punched Bohannon three times in the back of the head, knocking him down and causing a cut.

Video of the incident shows Bohannon was turned away from Kron at the time the punches were thrown.

Bohannon was removed from the scene by three friends and taken to a local hospital for treatment.  UI officials would later say Bohannon suffered a “serious head injury”.

Kron was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of one year in jail. He played defensive end for the Cyclones in 2012 and 2013.
