A Cedar Rapids man on probation after reaching a plea deal on an arson incident was taken into custody after allegedly showing up drunk for his probation appointment.

According to court documents, 27-year-old Robin Oligmueller reported to the probation office Friday for a scheduled appointment and appeared to be under the influence.

The parole officer stated that Oligmueller swayed up and down the hallway while walking to his office, and kept repeating, “I don’t drive anymore.”  He refused to submit to a preliminary breath test.

Oligmueller was accused of vandalizing his parents’ home near the Coralville Reservoir on February 24, 2022. He also reportedly set their car on fire.

Arriving deputies say they found Oligmueller standing by the front door with blood on his hands and burn marks on his face. Oligmueller reportedly said he cut his hands using a hammer to break out almost all of the windows in his parents’ house. He also allegedly admitted to dousing the inside of the car with gasoline and setting it on fire. The parents later told investigators their son did not live at the house, and he was not allowed to be on the property.

In all, about 20 windows were broken with an estimated replacement cost of $6,000. The Pontiac Grand Prix was completely destroyed. Its estimated value was $3,000.

He reached a plea deal on March 20th of this year and was given a five year suspended sentence, a suspended fine, and a two year probation.  Violating his probation puts him at risk for being sentenced to 10 years in prison on the 2nd degree Arson charge.
