An Iowa City woman was arrested after providing false information to acquire a weapon.

Police say the incident occurred on May 8th at Theisen’s of Coralville.  45-year-old Candace Holmes filled out a form to purchase a Taurus 9mm pistol.  She indicated on the document that she is not a felon, but a check of her records shows that Holmes was convicted of a felony in 2014.

Surveillance video showed Holmes handling two firearms at the store. She allegedly admitted to being a convicted felon and having possession of the firearms when interviewed by authorities.

A warrant was issued Tuesday, and Holmes was booked at the Johnson County Jail early Friday. She’s been charged with providing false information in acquiring a weapon, and dominion or control of a firearm as a felon. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
