Police have arrested an Iowa City man accused of firing a handgun downtown last February.

27-year-old Kemonte Brown of Eastbrook Street was arrested Wednesday in Boulder, Colo., by the U.S. Marshals Office. Iowa City Police say Brown was arguing with a group of people outside Pints on South Clinton Street just after 12:15am on February 26th when he pulled out a gun, chambered a round and handed it to an associate while he continued arguing. When the group with whom Brown was arguing was walking away, he allegedly took the gun back and shot in their direction, causing them to flee in all directions. The bullet hit the Old Capitol Town Center.

Brown is charged with Going Armed With Intent, Reckless Use of a Firearm, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and Person Ineligible to Carry Firearms. He has a history of committing indicatable offenses, including spending 30 days in jail following a June 2021 assault causing injury on South Clinton Street…also outside Pints.

Brown will be extradited to Johnson County to face charges. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 18 years in prison.
