Iowa City Police are investigating an overnight shooting downtown.
The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety issued a HawkAlert just after midnight Sunday indicating shots had been fired in an incident involving two men with guns near the intersection of Gilbert Street and Iowa Avenue. A later HawkAlert said two people had been shot. Iowa City Police clarified in a later statement, saying one victim had been shot multiple times at the Clock Tower Parking Ramp.
Responding officers say they located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on the sidewalk adjacent to the parking ramp on the Iowa Avenue side. Officers and first responders from the Iowa City Fire Department and Johnson County Ambulance Service provided aid to the man, who was transported to an area hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
The suspect was last seen fleeing the area on foot with several other people involved in an altercation preceding the shooting. No additional information has been released.
