A Marion man has been arrested on warrants stemming from two incidents this past October where he allegedly cashed business checks that he wasn’t entitled to.

According to investigators, the first incident occurred just before noon on October 21st at Hills Bank and Trust on South Gilbert Street. 55-year-old Terry Pitts allegedly cashed a forged check on an account owned by All-American Gutter Solutions for $4667.88. The business said that Pitts wasn’t a client of theirs, and was not owed any money by them. They stated the check was stolen and not issued or sent out.

Then at approximately 12:30 pm the same day, Pitts reportedly went to the Collins Community Credit Union in North Liberty and cashed a forged check written on an account owned by Woodcrafters, Inc. The amount of the check was $4657.89. Pitts does not work for Woodcrafters, nor does the company owe Pitts any money. The credit union reimbursed the business and suffered the loss.

Warrants for Pitts’ arrest were issued on February 14th; he was arrested Monday afternoon and has been charged with Forgery and 2nd degree Theft. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
