Allegedly threatening to kill the daughter of a downtown bar owner has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.
52-year-old Justin Meade of East Washington Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 12:15 Sunday morning. Iowa City Police say around 9:30 on the morning of April 20th Meade confronted the owner of The Deadwood on South Dubuque Street as he was walking near the corner of Dubuque and Washington Streets. Meade allegedly claimed the man had slept with his wife and ruined their relationship. He then reportedly told the man he would kill his daughter. The alleged victim has two daughters under the age of 18.
Police say Meade then used an unknown substance to write an inappropriate comment on the Deadwood’s front door.
Meade is charged with 1st Degree Harassment. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
Meade has a recent history of arrests connected to the nearby Ped Mall. Earlier this year Meade was fined $105 for threatening to shoot the area up. Last October he was arrested after allegedly brandishing a knife at staff at Brother’s, and earlier that month he allegedly assaulted a bystander who confronted him about abusing his dog in front of TCB.
