At-Large Iowa City City Councilor Andrew Dunn has announced he will seek election to Council District C, which is currently held by retiring councilor John Thomas.

Dunn says he’s seeking the seat to continue his work to increase transparency in government, build up affordable housing stock, tackle the climate crisis, promote racial justice and to facilitate good, “common sense” development and growth strategies.

In his announcement, Dunn specifically cited affordable housing from “predatory out of state investors”. He says he wants to increase community sustainability and protect workers, consumers, and renters.

If elected, Dunn would secure a four-year term in a new district.

Dunn joins a field of candidates for four council seats up for election this November. Two of the open positions are At-Large, currently held by Dunn and Councilor Laura Bergus. Two of three district positions are up as well: District C will be vacated by Thomas and District A is held by Pauline Taylor, who has not announced an intention to run or retire.
Dunn ran for Iowa House in 2022 and was appointed to the Iowa City City Council last January. He is now the Second Vice Chair of the Johnson County Democratic Party, and is an active member of the Iowa City Federation of Labor.

Earlier this week Mandi Remington also announced her candidacy for the Iowa City City Council.
