An Iowa City man was taken into custody after an alleged OWI and his subsequent refusal to cooperate with officers.

Tuesday night, 21-year-old Kailoe Fry of Broadway Street was detained for OWI and public intoxication near the intersection of Highway 6 and Broadway.  According to police, Fry was advised to have a seat on the ground while they conducted their investigation into the incident. Fry reportedly refused, even when commanded to have a seat.

Officers on scene then decided to handcuff Fry and asked him to place his hands behind his back. He refused that request, and attempted to push them away. During the altercation, Fry allegedly knocked the officers’ radios off their uniforms.

Fry reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, and the strong odor of alcohol on his breath; he refused to provide a PBT.

Fry faces charges of Public Intoxication, Interference with Official Acts, and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to a maximum 14 months in jail.
