The Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office says the body recovered from the Iowa River over the weekend was indeed that of a missing Muscatine man who was last seen in the early hours of April 15th.

A couple in the area of Napoleon Park on South Gilbert Street just after noon Saturday located what they thought appeared to be a body in the water. Responding Iowa City officers along with Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputies recovered a body from the water.

On Monday, the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified the body as 20-year-old Cristian Martinez.

Martinez’s cause of death remains under investigation and is pending results from an autopsy.
