A Marion man was arrested for OWI Sunday morning after allegedly commandeering a Gator from an Iowa City employee and creating a disturbance.
According to police, the employee was collecting trash in the area of the 100 block of East Washington Street when 21-year-old Cade Siemens of Marion got in the John Deere Gator and drove it without permission for approximately one block. The employee called for police and yelled at Siemens until he exited the vehicle.
Siemens then reportedly went into the nearby Java House where he allegedly created a disturbance that caused staff to call for police assistance.
Siemens was located in the area after a description was provided, and he reportedly had the strong odor of alcohol. He allegedly admitted to being drunk multiple times, and to having consumed multiple alcoholic beverages the night before. Siemens denied any memory of the events leading to police confronting him. He failed field sobriety tests and provided a PBT showing his blood-alcohol level at .263 percent.
Siemens was charged with OWI, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year if convicted.
