An Iowa City woman is facing multiple charges after being found using a machine gun last May.
Iowa City Police executed a search warrant on the Mormon Trek Boulevard residence of 27-year-old Karrlisa Wade in March. She was located in a vehicle with a yet-unnamed suspect, and 8 bags of marijuana weighing less than 38 grams were reportedly located inside.
A subsequent search of Wade’s residence allegedly turned up another 422 grams of marijuana.
The search warrant also allowed police to examine Wade’s electronic devices and it was reportedly determined that she and the other suspect conspired to distribute marijuana. Other evidence allegedly indicated that Wade had purchased a firearm for the other suspect at Scheel’s in Coralville in March 2021 and provided false information on the required ATF form. Due to Wade’s co-conspirator having a previous felony, they were ineligible to possess a firearm and it was confiscated.
Police say they also recovered evidence that Wade was in possession of and had used a machine gun in May of 2022 in Johnson County.
Wade was booked into the Johnson County Jail on Wednesday and faces a number of charges. They include Prohibited Transfer of a Firearm, Prohibited Purchase of Firearms, Unauthorized Possession of Offensive Weapons, a Controlled Substance violation, Failure to Affix Drug Stamp, and Keeping Premises or Vehicle for Controlled Substances. If convicted on all charges, Wade faces a prison sentence of up to 27 years.
