Area transient arrested after threatening to stab person who wouldn’t give him money

An angry transient was arrested Wednesday afternoon in downtown Iowa City after allegedly harassing and threatening to stab people who wouldn’t give him money.

Police reportedly received multiple complaints about 58-year-old Emile Harris, who in front of the Old Capitol Town Center at the intersection of East College and Clinton Streets at around 5pm. One victim stated that Harris demanded money as they walked past him, and when they declined, Harris called them a “white trash effing pussy,” and threatened to stab them. Other calls to police said Harris’ pants were down, he was screaming racial slurs, and he had yelled at a three-year-old.

The arrest report states that Harris has a history of threatening and sexually harassing passersby. He was charged with 1st degree Harassment for Wednesday’s incident, punishable by a jail term of up to two years if convicted.
