A trial date has been set for an Iowa City armed robbery suspect.

Judge Andrew Chappell set trial for August 1st for 21-year-old Calvin Beemer, who’s accused of coming to the victim’s home in the Cole’s manufactured housing community on South Riverside Drive on February 19th and confronting and assaulting the victim while displaying a replica gun. He then reportedly pointed it in the victim’s direction and threatened to kill them.

Beemer then allegedly tried to force the victim into his Chevy Silverado before punching them in the nose, causing bleeding.  Beemer then took the victim’s cellphone.

Arriving officers located Beemer in his truck, activated their lights and ordered him out of the vehicle. He reportedly ignored police, drove away, then fled on foot.

Beemer is charged with 1st Degree Robbery and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to over 25 years in prison.

Also earlier this week, a case management conference was set for June 2nd.
